At my exhibition "And a peculiar mourning it was," guests were greeted by a table of cakes. A custom at funerals in Victorian times, these little vanilla cakes were often individually wrapped in white paper, sealed with a black wax skull stamp and taken home by mourners. I personally baked and packaged each one of these in white parchment and to seal them, utilized the same red wax heart stamp as the "love letters" which were also included in the exhibit.
